Game

We explain what the game is and what are all the benefits of this activity. In addition, the types of games that exist.

The games acted as a stimulus for mental activity and practicality.
  1. What is Game?

The term game comes from the Latin iocus, which means something like a joke, and is understood as an activity carried out by human beings (and in some ways also some animals), which involves the development of the mind and body, with a sense of play, of distraction, of fun and learning.

The games acted as a stimulus for mental activity and practicality, to the extent that, in almost all cases, it is presented with the same sequence: the player is in a circumstance and he has to come to another by designing a mental strategy, which will then lead to practice. That strategy is limited by the rules and guidelines presented by the game, which give it a framework.

By this way in which the game is generally developed, it acquires its educational character: the child learns not only to develop strategies, but to adapt to the resources and conditions he has and knows beforehand . It is no coincidence, then, that the transition of the child from the family to the educational institutions is done in the kindergarten, where the game takes precedence.

  1. Types of games

Board games are often practiced by using a board.

The games that the person encounters as they develop correspond to different classes:

  • Table games. Practiced often by using a board and in general by a small number of people (usually from two to six). Such is the case of ludo, ladies, chess. They have a strong strategy component, but many times it is complemented by a significant chance quota, as in those in which dice are used. This group could also include card games, such as poker, the basket (both use the so-called French cards) or the broom of fifteen (Spanish cards) and traditional post or race games, such as the goose game or the rancher, who added the variant of banking and a kind of money. In some cases, what is sought is to reward knowledge, as in question and answer games.
  • Sport games. They are those that are practiced spontaneously or directed by teachers and trainers, in open spaces and with the use of the body. In general, in addition to the body there is some other object, although sometimes it is limited to the competences for the development of a purely physical ability. They can be both individual and group and always complement aspects of physical ability with strategy and a cold mind to think about how to do it. Schools, families and even the States, from their Secretariats of Sport, are responsible for spreading this type of games among young people, which enjoy great popularity.
  • Video game. They are made from digital tools, manifested through a screen. They were not practiced until the end of the 20th century, and in some cases they coincide with those included in the previous categories, but offered in a virtual way. Due to their eventual complexity, and in many cases, due to the breach of the main general characteristics of the game (that is, the lack of group activity and strategy development according to conditions), they are often criticized, and parents are recommended to regulate the Children's contact with this kind of games.
  • Gambling Group all those games that depend on chance, without further intervention of individual skill. The lottery is the classic example of this kind of games.

In adult life, play is a healthy way to maintain a space for recreation and fun . However, sometimes gambling with money bets arouses in adults compulsive behaviors, which depart from their natural and enriching purpose.
