This program belongs to Microsoft under commercial use license and works under the operating environments of Windows, Macintosh and some others, in various languages. The direct predecessor of Excel was a spreadsheet management program published by Microsoft in 1982, called Multiplan, which was extremely popular in certain systems, but not enough to overcome Lotus Development Lotus 1-2-3, a competing company bought by IBM in 1996.
